The national Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBPGR) was established in 1976 by Indian Council of Agricultural Research with its headquarters at New Delhi. It hosts the second largest gene bank in the world having mandate of management and to enhance the sustainable use of plant genetic and genomic resources of various crops and carry out related research. This organization also involves in the coordination of capacity building in PGR management and policy issues governing access and benefit sharing of their use.

The information from the talk will benefit the students of agriculture and forestry in the field of biodiversity conservation, use of wild relatives of cultivated species, varieties and hybrids in crop improvement. The students also gain the knowledge of conservation methods and its application for the sustainable development in agriculture and forestry by using biological resources without disturbing the wealth of genes and species.
